Eat Big or Go Home!

Are you ready for this one? You aren't going to believe it. In this day and age, when most of us are striving for good health and attempting to take off our excess weight, in a time when we are extremely conscious of being politically correct with every group of people whatever their race, gender, disability, age or size, a restaurant exists called Heart Stoppers. The waitresses, wearing scanty nurse's uniforms, serve up a menu filled with staggering amounts of fat, cholesterol and sugar.

Your "prescription" is written for such artery clogging fare as Chest Pain Fries (cooked in lard) and served in a bedpan (yuck), Death by Burger - a 3 pound killer which is wheeled out on a cart with an IV bag attached, Second Opinion Sausage Sandwich, Deep Fried Twinkies and a Purple Hematoma ice cream soda, all administered by your nurse. The decor includes a defibrillator, blood pressure machines, wheelchairs and other medical equipment.

To make matters worse anyone weighing over 350 pounds eats free. And if you want to shorten your life you can make a spectacle of yourself and sit in a wheelchair under operating room lights and polish off one of their three pound burger and fries. If you do it in record time, you get to have your photo on their Wall of Shame, oops - I mean Wall of Fame, either that or in their City Morgue gallery.

Not only does this restaurant exist just a couple miles from my south Florida home but there's a similar one in Arizona and they are engaged in a battle of trademark infringement or rather a fight to see which one has the legal right to be politically incorrect and morally deficient.

I haven't linked to their website and apologize to anyone who is offended by the very idea of this restaurant (myself included). Some people will do anything for $$$. Making light of health problems and obesity is in extremely bad taste, no matter how good the food might be.

Heart Stoppers - SHAME ON YOU! It's time there was a change in attitude toward obesity, the last thing we need is someone making fun of a serious problem.

What a shocking place! I have no words to express my disgust. It just makes it easier for obese people to drown in self pity and mockery. Totally shocking!

hmmmm makes one wonder...

I agree with you- that's tacky and in poor taste. And why anyone would even want to eat there is beyond me. Eating out of a bedpan? Sick! No thank you.

Are you effing kidding me lol

Well I guess that is one reason to stay fat... :/

I'm sure the bedpans are clean lol but thats definitely not the point.

Believe it or not, I actually know someone who ate there. I was thoroughly disgusted.

That's really wild. As someone who lost my father (far too young) from complications from obesity and whose husband has suffered from heart-related issues (despite his thin frame), I really can't imagine frequenting this place. At the same time, I'm not particularly offended by it -- but I'm surprised they get much business.

That's so shocking. I would think that the decor would make people lose their appetite instead of making them want to eat. The treatment for obesity and obesity-related diseases is sad and heart-breaking. Losing limbs or going blind from Diabetes isn't funny is it?

Also, as an Arizonan, I'm wondering where in Arizona? I haven't heard of it.

When I first watched the video about this place, I was disgusted. Some people will go to great lengths to stand out and make a buck.

By the way, I love your blog! Thanks so much for your supportive comment today :)

I'm all for a fun themed restraunt...but come on...that is a bit much!

Over 350 pounds you eat free! What is wrong with these people? Obesity is NOT a laughing matter--FURTHER I'm sure that those 350 pound people are made a spectical of, and laughed at.

What ever happened to common sense?

I saw a piece on the news about this. I wonder if this establishment will stay in business for a long time or whether people will be too uncomfortable to eat there.

I've seen this restaurant featured in the Travel Channel, and it grossed me out. My chest kind of hurt just watching people eat these KILLER menu items.

wrong on so many levels. I was hoping you were describing a tv show or something - but no, I looked it up and its there. So so so wrong.

I did not look at the video because I got enough information from your post. Shame on anyone who spends money in these places.

Wow! That is just insane.

Yuck!!! How unappealing!!! Who would eat in such a place? You'd have to be awefully perverse.

Thank you for the comment. Firstly, vegetable juices in the morning are for MUST for me and these juices have been recommended by my Naturopath Doc. I need to consume a variety of them. For instance Ash Gourd Juice is beneficial for http://www.timeswellness.com/index.aspx?page=article&sectid=7&contentid=2009072720090726134815312543d231a

I may need to re work on the timings and food choices like you mentioned. :-)

I just read your comment on my blog (about the 130's) and I can't believe you're so close! We're practically the same weight! If I can do this, you can do this. Let's do it!

I also saw this on the travel channel. If I'm remember correctly...I think they said that a "doctor" was the owner. I could be wrong, though.

This is my first time visiting your blog and what a 1st post to walk in on. Yuck! I can see how it would appeal to a person (I'm not saying I would agree, just that I can see how somebody could) to eat there once, but to have repeat business? I don't think so.

There are some morbildy obese people who really don't have a problem (outwardly, who really knows what's happening inwardly with people unless they spill it all in a blog like we do ;o)) with their weight being flaunted or being poked fun at. Some can laugh at themselves and at the rediculousness of this restaurant but those people are few and far between. Not to mention places like this do such a diservice to all the work others do to try and educate the world on obesity, healthy eating and the stereotypes that come along with being over weight.

*sigh* Two steps forward one step back, right?

Hi. If someone did this for an art piece I'd say it was VERY witty - a really apposite comment on our society and current lifestyles. But as a real restaurant it's pretty sad. I have no idea why anyone would want to eat there.

Hope you're having a good weekend.

Bearfriend xx

They are making a fool of us! But sadly, there are still people who'd rather choose food instead of health.

What an awful sounding place but on the flip side, people must be choosing to go there. Beggars belief doesn't it?
