The words were softly spoken in the 20 minute, emotionally packed prize winning film by Joshua Weigel, "Butterfly Circus". If you haven't seen it yet, you owe it to yourself to do so. The words are worthy of being shouted from rooftops.
“The greater the struggle,
the more glorious the triumph!”
the more glorious the triumph!”
What does that mean to us, as fellow dieters? Each pound lost is cause for celebration. We struggled for it; changing our eating habits, resisting temptations, moving our bodies in new and often tortuous ways. As we get closer and closer to our goals (and we are), we ought to take into account all the hard work and sacrifice we have endured to reach that goal. And how glorious it will feel when we actually get there!
At the present, I can only imagine. Think of it, the triumph of buying new clothes in an almost unimaginably small size. Of looking in the mirror and loving what we see. Of have the energy and endurance to chase our children and to play new games. Of fulfilling the desire to look sexy to our mate. Of gazing at a white chocolate Napoleon and not having to wipe the drool off the front of our shirts (OK, I’ll always drool over pastries). Of going to our annual check-up and the doctor telling us we no longer have to take our cholesterol or blood pressure medication. Of not shuddering every time we think of putting on a swim suit. Of feeling really good about ourselves and what we’ve accomplished.
Yes, we are struggling now. But think of that glorious triumph! In the end it will have been well worth the struggle, whether you will have lost 20 pounds, 120 pounds or more.
What triumphs are you imagining?

Great post Ellen.......I like everybody in the real world will always drool over quality pastries.
What triumph am I imaging. Looking at a picture of myself and not thinking "where did the stud go?".

Being able to sit with my legs crossed - elegant....I would love to do elegant!

I want to lose 100 pounds before November 28th. 80.7 left to go!
Wow, I love that quote! That's a great way to put it. As much as I struggle, my triumph really will be great!
:D Great post.
Today I have been imagining fitting into teensy tiny clothing. I think the fitness triumphs are the best, though. I would LOVE to say I ran 10 miles!
Thanks for checking out my blog & becoming a follower!
This was a good post for me to read...this week had no loss (no gain either...), even though last week I did *good* in terms of eating & exercise...I need to remember the sweet taste those triumphs will have when I get there! Triumphs like wearing shorts or a skirt above the knee and feeling like I look great...instead of feeling incredibly self-conscious. Triumph like taking my kids to the pool and not worrying about whether or not I am embarrassing them by being the biggest mom at the pool...so many triumphs I am envisioning...thanks for the reminder to work hard for those rewards!
Love your blog, Ellen, so glad we "discovered" each other! :)
Don't you just love the support we get in our little online community? It's just so amazing and I am fortunate to have discovered you all!
I'm imagining those cute clothes and being able to run around and play with my kids without getting winded.
Hey, thanks for the kind words! I know exactly what I am imagining. My body returning to a size 8 - the size I was intended to be.
That and the new wardrobe I'll be buying when I get there! :-)
Love it!!
The quote I have to say is spot on.

Hola sólo ver que eras de Florida, me ha parecido genial.. tengo tantas ganas de conocerlo.. y no sé si podrá ser..
Besos lamento no escribir en Ingles.
I think the triumph I am looking forward to the most will be being able to go shopping at the same stores as my friends, and being able to share clothes!
I went and watched Butterfly Circus... WOW. What an awesome, amazing film. Loved it, and I'm so glad it was available to watch online. Definitely a new fave!

Thanks, Ellen for the nice comment on my blog today. I was scrolling down and saw that I had missed this post of yours, and clicked on the link to the little movie.
It was just what I needed to see today. Thank you for posting about it, it really touched me, and encouraged me.
